Wouldn’t it be great to benefit from a Stetson University education, without ever having to pay tuition? You can! Stetson University is chock-full of community assets and outreach programs.
Stetson’s Gillespie Museum has exhibitions of photos, artifacts, memorabilia, and much more, and subjects vary widely. Check out the Science Café where professors bring topical discussions to the community.
The Stetson Community School of Music offers outreach programs of Stetson’s Community School of Music, including Orff-Schulwerk program for ages 3-9; a youth string orchestra; a young singers program for elementary through high school students; and individual lessons on orchestral and band instruments, guitar, piano and voice.
If it's art you prefer, the Homer and Dolly Hand Art Center on Michigan Avenue features a variety of media and exhibits throughout Stetson's calendar year. Rotating exhibitions span from 3-D art to watercolors and far beyond. Admission to the facility is free.
If performing arts are more your style, it's time to play; Stetson University bustles with musical and theatrical performances year-round. Concerts at Lee Chapel, for example, have included internationally renowned musicians such as Amadeus Guitar Duo featuring Dale Kavanagh and Thomas Kirchhoff; guest recitals in everything from flute to piano; and choral performances.
Stetson University’s sports also are some of the most fun, family-friendly and affordable events around (read more about them in our sports story here in the Guide to West Volusia.)
